Book 7 Patch 2

Patch 2 goes live Tuesday April 21

• The turtle raid you already know is coming next week. As for any actions taken. We do not discuss diciplinary actions. Ever.
  
• Gift
  Boxes. Despite some opinions to the contrary these haven't been
  dropping the correct items from day one. Even on Bullroarer (especially
  on Bullroarer) they had the wrong loot. Like a slot machine always set
  to pay max winnings. So while it was great loot, it was still broken
  (broken in your favor is still broken). The live boxes are also not
  dropping the correct loot. The question of when will they be fixed is
  one of priorities. Right now the number one priority of every member of
  the team is returning the game servers to a reliable and stable state.
  We know the gift boxes are important to you and we will address them as
  soon as we get the stability issue under control. But I think everyone
  would agree that server stability is of higher priority. Imagine if we
  had fixed them and you got the loot you wanted only to lose it in a
  roll back due to server issues.
  
• What about the
  Lothlorien reputation crafted item recipe crit trophies? Are they being
  added during the patch also? Or will they come in the next patch? They are not in patch 2.
  
• Lothlorien gift boxes never worked as intended, even on Bullroarer, if so is it possible to know what is their proper function?
  They're serving their 'function' but their loot table is wrong. On
  bullroarer they were too generous and on live they're a bit stingy. I
  think the goal is something in between.
  

GUARDIAN BOOK 8 CORRECTIONS

These corrections are all in the Book 8 timeframe.

Turn the Tables has its facing requirement removed. As
mentioned, the removal of the ability to turn while stunned greatly
reduced the utility of this skill in an unintended manner.

Fray the Edge now functions correctly whether traited or untraited.

The Shield Wall issue is under review. It will take an engineering fix so I don't know exactly what the correction will be at this time.

VOLUME 2, BOOK 8 UPCOMING CONTENT


Book 8 is knocking on our door. Last week we wrote about GUARDIAN BOOK 8 CORRECTIONS and today there are some new information from Turbine's conference call:

* According to Jeffrey Steefel, the new Book 8 content patch will bring players many new small party-based instances.
* Later on in the year, players will get the opportunity to explore deeper into the southern Mirkwood area, focusing mainly on the city of Dol Guldur.
* Southern Mirkwood is not the only new area content coming this year.
* The Dwarves and Elves were asked to come back to Moria because of an "unrest" that is happening within the mines. A return to Khazad-dum!
* A major game mechanic being introduced later this year will be known as Skirmishes.They're described as dynamic instances that are aware of the party's size, and they respond accordingly, in relation to how big or small the party is. They are also repeatable, and will have multiple objectives that will give you enough incentive to do them multiple times with different sized groups.
* Plus, customizable soldiers that you can train and bring into these skirmishes.
* The level cap will increase by year's end,
* New Summer Festival will be coming with Book 8.
* Book 8 comes in June 2009

Gameplay

The Quest Guide system is now out of Beta! The system will automatically be turned on for all players by default. If you would not like to use the system, you can toggle the system off in the options panel under the UI settings page.


Quests and Epic Story

If you had Volume II, Book 2, Chapter 4, 'Enemies in the Ever Dark' underway in your quest journal, it has been removed to correct an issue with the quest automatically completing before you return to the bestower.


Raids and Instances

The Strange Happenings raid is once again available. Turtle is back on the menu!

The Legendary Item quests will now fail if the instance quest fails or is abandoned. This destroys the key item and triggers a retry timer before you can re-start the quest.

We have made a number of changes to the resource instances. This required they be versioned. If you currently have these underway they will be removed from your quest journal during the update.


"Kill Boss" quests must be underway in order to enter their associated instances.

"Kill Boss" quests can no longer be cancelled.

"Kill Boss" quests now have a 1 hour failure timer attached. If the quest fails, there is a 2 hour retry cooldown before you can accept the quest again.

All “Kill 20” and “Collect” quests now require the appropriate “Kill Boss” quest to be active in your quest journal before they are made available.

"Kill Boss" quests are exclusive and players will only be able to have one of the six active at any given time


Misc

Several changes have been made to address server performance and stability.

Characters suffering from the Character Unavailable issue should now be available again

The multi-boss raid is on schedule for release with Book 8. Over the past few weeks we've been getting some really good testing on it and are hard at work tweaking and polishing it.

BOOK 8 RUNE KEEPER CHANGES

May 20th 2009

As we wrote earlier today Zombie_Columbus announced a big list of changes for Rune-Keepers. Modifications will be focused on spike damage and power usage:

1. Epic Conclusion critical damagewas reduced and the “Closing Remarks” buffs were reduced to +50%. Base damage was increased to preserve overall DPS.
2. Ceaseless Argument had its base damage reduced, but also its power cost. This skill was overpreforming as a DPS skill and will function more as a filler auto-attack now.
3. Fall to X has been changed so it does not increase the damage of the attack that triggered it, but to apply damage seperetly. This I will admit is 100% because of players complaining about various weak attacks doing too much damage, when in fact it was simply the Fall to X skill triggering. However, the change is completely cosmetic and does not change the effectiveness of the skills.
4. The IA critical damage from lightning legacy has been reduced in potency.

BOOK 8 RUNE KEEPER AND BURGLAR

Few days ago Zombie_Columbus has tickled our imagination when he announced a big post for Burglar changes in Book 8. He's also promised to Rune-Keepers, much as with the Burglars, he'll be posting a bigger list of upcoming changes next week.

So far the only information on the forum is that the Rune-Keeper will be receiving some modifications, focused on spike damage and power usage. According to Zombie_Columbus there will be "decreasing the critical multipliers and increasing the base dmg".


BOOK 8 GUARDIAN

Stagger’s little issue is going to be fixed for Book 8, however it’s going to come with a little change to the skill as a result.

The runspeed debuff will be applied just like it is currently, on a critical hit or from behind. The attack speed debuff will be applied 10% of the time regardless of position or critical hits.

The two debuffs will be separate though, so bigger run speed debuffs will no longer remove the attack speed debuff.

Možda sad nećete moći bezglavo ulijetati prije tenkova u fajt? Možda ćete pustiti prvo gazde da uzmu ono što im pripada i tek onda krenuti u ono za što ste napravljeni - osrednji DPS i polutenkanje.

The post Moria world leaves us with two issues. First, the reduction in overall B/P/E has greatly reduced the penalizing effect of removing the Champions avoidance. This leads to an imbalance between DPS output and survivability especially in group encounters. If average Fellowship healing can keep a DPS mode Champion alive while the Champion is tanking an entire group encounter the purpose of the tank classes is jeopardized.

Lothlorien Gift Box Changes:
* There is no longer a chance to receive First-age items.
* There is no longer a chance to receive Tier 4 Runics.
* The Heritage Runes have significantly increased in value.
o The lowest value is now 75k.
o The highest value is now 250k.
* There is now a chance to receive Level 58 and Level 59 Second-age items (you can still get Level 60 Second-age items as well).
* The odds have been tweaked, the most significant of which is that there’s now a slightly higher chance of receiving a Second-age item, but a lower chance of that Second-age being Level 60 (due to the inclusion of Level 58 and 59 Second-age items).
* The costs of the gift boxes have been significantly reduced: they now cost 15G 30S.
* The descriptions of the gift boxes have been changed to more accurately reflect the potential rewards.
* The gift boxes are no longer class restricted for those who mistakenly purchased the wrong box.
* Please note that there will be no compensation for those who have already purchased a gift box: when you opened that gift box you had a chance to get a Level 60 First-age item.


First Age Legendary Items
First Ages are now dropped via a barter system.Each raid now drops barter tokens that can be saved up to use to trade for the First Age item of your choice. Vile Maw, Strange Happenings, and Dar Narbugud will all drop multiple tokens. Go visit the barter traders at the Hythe docks to see all the possibilities.
* Level 59 First Age’s will cost 4 tokens
* Level 60 First Age’s will cost 6 tokens


Champion
The Champion’s skill Fervour will now have a -30% penalty to incoming healing.


Fil Gashan
* In the final fight of Fil Gashan, the Fire DOTs can once again be removed by standing in the waterfalls.


Filikul
* Nornuan can no longer be enraged.
*Nouruan will now remove the effects of Shield Wall with small penalties to those enacting and receiving the effects of this skill.

Emotes
When you slap someone with a fish, now you slap him/her/it with a fish, not just hold a fish while slapping him/her/it.

In an effort to reduce some of the inventory space concerns the following have had their stack sizes increased.
Most food items now stack to 50.
Minstrel’s Lute Strings now have a stack size of 50
All reputation tokens now stack to 100.
Traveling Rations now stack to 100.
All crafting-related ingredients (and components) now stack to 100.
All new optional crafting ingredients stack to 100.
All craftable morale potions, power potions, and cure potions now stack to 50.
